A modal that stays out of the way until the pointer heads for the browser chrome \u2014 the one moment when interrupting costs you nothing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n

What to watch for.<\/strong> Move your mouse up and out of the window, towards the address bar. The modal opens then, and not before. Close it and it stays closed for the rest of the visit.<\/p>\n

Why exit intent and not a timer<\/h2>\n

A timed popup interrupts someone who is still reading. Exit intent waits for the gesture that says the visit is ending anyway: the pointer leaving the top edge of the viewport. The cost of being wrong is much lower, and so is the irritation.<\/p>\n

The trigger is deliberately conservative. It only fires on a genuine upward exit, it only fires once, and it does nothing at all on touch devices, where there is no pointer to track and no top edge to leave through. A phone visitor sees nothing here.<\/p>\n

What it is made of<\/h2>\n

Four elements, stacked: a heading, a line of text, an email form, and a close link. The form posts to your own site over the REST API, stores the address in your own database, and never sends it anywhere else. There is no account, no external service and no third-party script on this page.<\/p>\n

The close link is an element like any other, which means the wording is yours. “No thanks, not this time” reads very differently from a bare cross in the corner, and the difference shows up in how people feel about the site afterwards.<\/p>\n

What happens after someone subscribes<\/h2>\n

The lead is written to the database, the campaign records a conversion, and the popup stops appearing for that visitor \u2014 converting is a stronger signal than closing, and the plugin treats it that way. In Pro the same submission can be forwarded to Mailchimp, Brevo, ConvertKit or whichever provider you have connected.<\/p>\n
